A DoE approach in which designs are generated based on an optimality criterion. A sparse method often used when there are resource limitations.
In D-Optimal, the determinant of the matrix of parameters is maximised.
Advantages
- Useful when there are resource limitations
- Can be tailored to optimise the parameters of interest
Disadvantages
- Will not represent the design space as thoroughly as other approaches, such as Central Composite
- Not very structured, can vary depending on the optimisation method
